SHOW PONY

Years ago I began murmuring songs to my bass, listening to the echoes of the highway in stereo in my bed, absorbing the sounds around me. Show Pony began taking shape. She was a shadowy figure dancing at the edges of my life. After spending a month writing in remote Iceland, she was ready to be released into the world.

Meet Show Pony. A playground for songs, electronics, and bass.

Lullaby for a Slow Apocalypse

I cannot think of the last time
I saw an artwork so conceptually ambitious, so formally arresting.โ€

= Arts Talk Magazine

Immerse yourself in this barren landscape. It is inviting despite its emptiness, warm wind blowing, wind chimes sounding through the space. There are mirrored UV screens, the material we used to place on windows to protect ourselves from the sun. Colors and textures dance and dabble the space. Theyโ€™re images of our past world. A glistening and smokey cloud hangs above our heads.

Lullaby for a Slow Apocalypse is a vivid performative installation challenging the ideas of endings by Show Pony, Tatiana Rosa, and Simon van Steenis. Inspired by an article by Katerina Sidorova and wondering โ€œWhat if the accepted version of the apocalypse is wrong?โ€ the three set out to create an atmosphere reframing the apocalypse from the matriarchal perspective, through visuals set set to the dreamy chamber music synth pop music of Show Pony, written and arranged in collaboration with producer No Compliments. It premiered in Amsterdam in summer of 2022 and was made possible by support from Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunsten.

Review of Unsaid on Beatradar

A gorgeous vocal performance is opening our Beach Lounge session today. Behind the name Show Pony we find an American born, Amsterdam based double bassist, composer, and singer Laura Nygren.

This track was co produced with Australian multi-instrumentalist No Compliments. And what an impressive collaboration this is.
Uncompromisingly experimental, yet seductively accessible.
